A North Dakota Center of Excellence
The ND Legislature approved Governor Hoeven’s request
for funding for the ND Centers of Excellence program during
the 2003 legislative session to fund private/public partnerships
to commercialize technology.
Included in that funding was $800,000 for a new entrepreneur
center with the Center for Innovation, the State’s
first Center of Excellence.
Matching Funds
$3 million in matching funds have been secured through
private donations, including a $1.75 million gift from diving
board entrepreneur Ray Rude of Stanley. Rude requested that
the Center be named for his late wife, Ina Mae Rude, who
was his greatest supporter in his entrepreneur ventures.
Aerospace entrepreneur James Ray made a $500,000 donation
to the Center for the Idea Lab.
In addition, the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development
Administration provided a grant of $750,000 to complete
the funding for the new entrepreneur center.
